Dental Implants
While many people think that missing teeth is a purely cosmetic issue, this is simply not the case. Missing teeth can cause trouble speaking and chewing, dental shifting, and even bone decay in the jaw. However, Coral Springs Dental Center can help you avoid these complications with custom dental implants! Dental implants are a permanent solution to missing teeth. Implants can be used to replace teeth that have been lost due to trauma, age, and extraction. There are two components of a dental implant. The implants themselves are metal posts that are anchored in or around the jaw bone. The implants hold the second piece, which is an artificial tooth. They can be used to replace a single tooth (crown), multiple teeth (bridge), or an entire jaw arch (implant secured denture). The Coral Springs Dental Center prosthodontic team, fronted by Dr. Ron Seeceheran, can work with you to find the best solution for your dental needs.[caption id="attachment_9468" align="alignright" width="300"]

They are made of the metal titanium, which is widely compatible with the body so the chances of implant rejection are extremely low. Because the body accepts titanium, the bone surrounding the implant will begin to fuse with the metal. This is called osseointegration and it is what makes implants so secure and a great long term solution to missing teeth. There are three main types of implants. The most common is the endosteal implant. With endosteal implants, screw, rod, or blade shaped metal posts are imbedded within the jaw bone. The next type of implant is the subperiosteal implant, which is used for patients with shallow or weak jaw bones. This system consists of a metal bridgework that sits under the gum and wraps around the top and side of the jaw bone. Finally, there is the transosteal implant. The transosteal implant requires the most invasive procedure at it goes all the way through the jawbone and is secured at the bottom with a metal plate. The transosteal implant is widely regarded an unnecessary and is only seldom used. Coral Springs Dental Center recommends either using an endosteal or subperiosteal implant and will work with you to determine which of these is the best option. The Tooth- Now that there is an implant in place, you need something to attach to it. Depending on the severity of the tooth loss, our dentists will either recommend a crown, bridge or, denture. Crowns are used for single tooth replacement while bridges are rows of crowns that can replace multiple lost teeth in a row. Implant secured dentures can be either partial, for large gaps of missing teeth, or cover an entire jaw arch. Crowns, bridges and dentures are especially made for each patient. This is to ensure that they fit perfectly with the size and curvature of the mouth and any remaining natural teeth. With proper care your dental implant crowns can anywhere from 5 to even 15 years! With Coral Springs Dental Center, there is no need to be embarrassed about your smile or worry about the dental problems that may come with missing teeth.
