Prosthodontic Treatment- CSDC
Many people hear “prosthodontics” and think immediately of cosmetic dentistry. This, however, is far too simplistic. Prosthodontics deals with replacing lost teeth and fixing broken teeth. While prosthodontic treatment does often have cosmetic benefits, there is usually an underlying medical reason for why prosthetics are required. The dentists here at Coral Springs Dental Center are dedicated to providing the best care, in both cosmetic and practical dentistry. There are many types of prosthetics available, and each is best suited to a different type of tooth loss. If you think that you might require prosthodontic care, take a look at some of the options available here and then call Coral Springs Dental Center.Options for missing teethWhen you have missing teeth, you may become more self-conscious about your smile. But what you may not realize is that missing teeth can greatly affect the way that you talk and chew. Missing teeth can also cause your remaining teeth to shift and this can cause jaw bone issues. You have multiple prosthodontic treatment options when it comes to missing teeth.
- Crowns: crowns are tooth shaped coverings that can be used to remedy the appearance of an existing tooth or replace one that has been lost. The crown is attached to a permanent metal implant which holds it steadily in place. Crowns are made custom for each patient out of a durable porcelain material. They will look and function just like a natural tooth.
- Bridges: bridges are very similar to crown except that they are used to replace two to four missing teeth in a row. They are also made specifically for each patient and can be anchored using existing teeth, implants, or a combination of both.
- Dentures: dentures are best suited for patients who have large numbers of teeth missing. There are two types of dentures: full and partial. Full dentures cover the hard palate of the mouth. They are often removable and held in place with a mild temporary adhesive. Partial dentures are usually fixed and held in place by a metal framework that is hidden under the gums.
Options for broken teethFor teeth that have been severely chipped or eroded by a cavity, inlays and onlays are a great option. An easy way to think of inlays and onlays is as puzzle pieces specially created to fit the spaces created in a broken tooth. An inlay is smaller and is usually surrounded by natural tooth when placed. An onlay, on the other hand, is used when most of the tooth is missing and the remaining tooth mass is just used as an anchor.VeneersVeneers are different from crowns, bridges, dentures, inlays, and onlays in that they usually are purely cosmetic. Veneers are tooth shaped shells that are adhered to the front of teeth. They are used to fix the appearance of gapped or yellowed teeth.Coral Springs Dental Center never wants to hear of a less than perfect smile holding one of our patients back.
